We are proud to announce that the First Thursday Art Walk is back to a seasonal program! April through October, with a December Holiday stroll.
668 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain, MA, Event Date: April 3, 2014 6-8 PM- JP Centre/South Main Streets is proud to announce that April 3rd will be the official “re-launch” of the First Thursday Program!
Newly elected Vice President of the JP Centre/South Main Streets Board of Directors announces, “We are so excited to partner with Jamaica Plain News to kick off our First Thursday Art Walk. We have a new Board of Directors and a new Executive Director so look for exciting programming for First Thursday. Come see us at 668 Centre Street on April 3 from 6-8 PM for a map of happenings!”
“Since joining JP Centre/South Main Streets, I made it a priority to meet with businesses and artists alike. I wanted to hear from our community what worked about the First Thursday program and what needed some work done,” said Executive Director Andrew Zarro. “I think we’ve accomplished what we set out to do with the April 3rd kick-off.”
One of the biggest changes to expect is that First Thursday will now be a cohesive Art Walk. Centre/South Main Streets will continue working on the program to encourage the community to visit all the locations that are participating and see what is going on in and out of the storefronts on the Centre/South corridor. The emphasis is to enjoy the Centre/South commercial district, patronize local businesses, and embrace the artistic heritage of the community.
Other changes include a shortened program season, returning the monthly event to an April-October schedule with a December First Thursday Holiday Walk. There will also be a monthly rotating “Cash Mob” integrated into the program. A cash mob takes the concept of a flash mob and applies it to supporting a local business by using networks to assemble people at a local business and patronize using cash. Locations will be advertised in advance of each First Thursday Art Walk.
JP Centre/South Main Streets has also taken on the role of matchmaker for any business or artist that seeks assistance. “We wanted to streamline to process for business owners and artists. Running a business is tough enough, so we really looked into bridging that gap to be more inclusive of all businesses in our district that wanted to participate but didn’t know where to start,” said Zarro. “Any business who wishes to continue finding its own artists is more than welcome to! We just ask that they work with us to promote the cohesive “feel” of the First Thursday Art Walk.”
